Meet the Doctors & Staff
|
Dr. Sommer began his career working as a coverage doctor, and soon after, became an associate in Rochester. Several years later, he and his wife collaborated their efforts and opened Perinton Hills Chiropractic in Fairport, NY. An avid sports fan and sport participant himself, Dr. Sommer has a passion for working with injured athletes (or at least discussing recent games and plays with his patients). He often refers to sporting situations or examples to help explain to patients the mechanism of a particular injury. Dr. Sommer is also a volunteer firefighter with his local Fire Department. He enjoys traveling with his wife, doing projects around the house, and spending time relaxing with friends and family. His interests include golf, skiing, softball, and football. His hobbies include movies, music, and reading.
Perinton Hills Chiropractic is pleased to introduce Dr. Patrick Maddalena, a Board Certified Clinician in Electrodiagnostic Medicine, providing in-office Nerve Conduction Velocity (NCV) and Electromyography (EMG) studies of both upper and lower extremities. Radiating pain/paresthesias can emanate from a variety of sources within the body. NCV and EMG testing allows the doctor to accurately diagnose the origin of numbness, tingling, muscle weakness and/or pain in the shoulders, arms, hands, buttocks, legs and feet. Advanced imagery, such as an MRI, provides still pictures showing bone and soft tissue structures, from which the doctor can gather anatomical information about the injury; however, an MRI does not assess the ability of nerve functioning in the involved area. NCV and EMG tests can accurately report the functioning of both sensory and motor nerves in the body that control the movements and sensations in the arms and legs. Pin-pointing the exact origin of a patient's symptoms allows for enhanced diagnosis and treatment of all neck, low back and radiating discomfort.* Dr. Maddalena practices primarily at Accelerated Health & Wellness Centre in Niagara Falls, Ontario. He is in the Fairport office for EMG/NCV studies on the third Tuesday of every month, and as needed by appointment. Outside of the office, Dr. Maddalena plays professional lacrosse for the Toronto Rock and teaches lacrosse to youth.

*As always, feel free to contact the office and speak directly to one of the doctors regarding any treatment questions ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The doctors at Perinton Hills Chiropractic are committed to furthering their chiropractic education by taking extensive courses in learning the latest information on case management, documentation, nutrition, and treatment techniques and protocols. For Dr. Zalone and Dr. Sommer, this includes becoming certified from the Spinal Research Institute of San Diego in diagnosing, treating, and managing whiplash, spine, and brain trauma. They have worked in conjunction with various medical specialists in the Rochester community to co-treat and manage these severe injuries, including neurosurgeons, orthopedists, psychiatrists, and physical therapists. Drs. Sommer and Zalone have proceeded to earn advanced certification in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of golf injuries from the Blanchard Academy of Golf. They are among only a few chiropractors in Monroe County to hold these certifications. The doctors are members of the American Chiropractic Association (ACA) and the New York State Chiropractic Association (NYSCA). They also participate in the Spine Study Group, through the University of Rochester Medical Center Department of Orthopaedics. The couple volunteer and participate in fundraising for various organizations including the Lance Armstrong Livestrong Foundation and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Western New York. The doctors and staff at Perinton Hills Chiropractic pride themselves in their integrity and their passion for helping others. They encourage you to ask questions as they may arise.
